On Course 1 Lesson 8 question #7 of the quiz, the question is verbal only requiring me to understand the verbal question only. I played it back at least 20 times and the only word that I think I understood was Kyou? I have Noticed this quite a bit when the non-native speaker says a word it is very very hard for me to understand what he is saying compared to the male and female native speakers. Why is this? I think question #7 should be re-recorded using a native speaker or at least have the question in hiragana also.
(Question #7) Q: きのうは ついたちでしたか。(KINOU WA TSUITACHI DESHITAKA) = Was yesterday the 1st of the month?
He is a native Japanese speaker. You are right. It is hard even for me to understand what he was saying (only the topic though.) I think he said KINOU (yesterday), but it also sounded like KYOU (today).
This is a quiz, so it should have been a little clearer, but this is a good listening practice actually. People always don’t talk clearly. They have accents and a low/high voice. Some people talk fast and nonstop.
When it happens in real-life conversation, let’s say;
すみません。もういちど、いってください。(SUMIMASEN. MOU ICHIDO ITTE KUDASAI) = Excuse me. Please say it one more time.
